The application is based on Costa Rica's traffic laws, effective as of June 15, 2015, which stipulate that a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.5% or higher is deemed unfit to drive and will face penalties as prescribed by law. Consequently, the functionality of the app concerning this issue is valid only within Costa Rica.

Educalcohol Costa Rica is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the effects of alcoholic beverages. Its mission is to promote a sense of responsibility and a culture of moderation within society. The cALCOHOLadora app is designed to provide users with an approximate estimation of their blood alcohol concentration while consuming alcoholic beverages. It is important to note that this app does not replace breathalyzer or blood tests conducted by traffic authorities in the event of a stop.
